When should my baby go to bed?

Like most things baby related, what seems like a simple question doesn’t necessarily have a simple answer. The truth is, it depends.

The most important thing you can do is put your baby to bed before they become overtired. This is why keeping track of naps can be so helpful – you want to make sure that the window of time between the last nap and bedtime is appropriate for your baby’s age.

Here is a quick guide, by age, for the recommended amount of awake time:

0 - 6 WEEKS 45 minutes – 1 hour
6 WEEKS - 3 MONTHS 1 – 1.5 hours
3 - 6 MONTHS 1.5 – 2.5 hours
6 - 12 MONTHS 2 – 3 hours
12 - 8 MONTHS 3 – 4 hours
18 MONTHS - 3 YEARS 4 – 5 hours

Remember, the better your child sleeps in the day, the better they will sleep at night.
